Would you turn the other cheek

Updated: Jan 17, 2020

1 Peter 3:9 Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called.

During the World War 2, thousands were injured in the Italy. In the war torn Camore region, a nun was taking care of the victims of war. Her work involved feeding them, washing them, comforting them with their pain, in every way.

Robert, an Italian Soldier, was among those injured. He was physically and emotionally wounded. He spend His whole day abusing people. And speaking hurtful words.

The nun came round to feed him. She gave him an egg. He took the egg and threw it back at the nun. This soiled her clothes. She slowly walked to the washroom, washed her clothes. The soldier expected her to be very hurt and to say hurtful words to him.

So when she turned up with a bowl of porridge and said to him, "Robert, I know you didnt like the egg, but am begging you to take the porridge ". The soldier broke down crying. He always thought that every hurtful day should be repaid with pain.

Robert and the nun became best of friends. What would we have done if the egg was thrown to us? Most of us would be so hurt, and most likely we would ask another person to serve him. Then we would probably try to avoid him.

1 Peter 2:15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.

By acting like this, the nun changed and overcame the negative attitude of the the soldier. By coming back with more food smiling, the soldier realized that his bitterness was not giving him the results that he desired.

The reaction of the nun revealed to him how bad his action was. And that it was possible for a human being, to do good to those who deliberately hurt them.

When the fiery words, or look, or event comes to you, remember who you are. That you are a child of Jesus, the daughter of the King, and respond the right way, calmly and with courage. Like a child.

1 Peter 3:14 Have no fear of them, nor be troubled.

Blessed week everyone!
